Coca-Cola has rubbished claims it is planning to drop the Diet Coke “hunk” from its advertising. It was reported earlier this week that Coca-Cola Great Britain would ditch the brand icon as part of a move to realign its marketing strategy with the US.
It was suggested that the current “hunk” ads would be the last and that future campaigns would be more “subtle and glamorous” to fall in line with the US.
However, Coca-Cola has released a statement saying: “Coca-Cola Great Britain can confirm that there are no current plans in 2008 to drop the hunk from their iconic ‘Diet Coke Break’ advertising campaign.”
Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest, which handles the advertising for the brand, has also denied the claims.
Coca-Cola decided to revive the “hunk”, which was first introduced ten years ago, in January last year.
