Patrick Muir, the former Morgan Stanley and Egg marketer, has joined City investment company Octopus Investments as its first marketing director.
Muir, who left Morgan Stanley last summer, will be responsible for building the company’s marketing department and setting its strategy.
It is thought much of the activity will be generated in house with Muir keen to capture the “quick turnaround” that Egg was known for at its launch. He says he wants the marketing to stand out from its existing wealth and investment communications.
While at Egg, Muir was part of the team responsible for its positioning as the UK’s first internet-only bank. He left in 2004 to join Morgan Stanley as its first vice-president and head of marketing for its international consumer banking group (MW March 4, 2004). He was behind the bank’s decision to buy credit card Goldfish and he appointed ad agency Grey.
He left the US banking giant last year following the decision to spin off its card operations into Discover Financial Services. He is also a former marketing director for Lombard Bank.
Octopus was formed in 2000. In December, it bought a “significant minority” in Bruce Dunlop Associates (BDA), an ad agency specialising in on-screen promotions for broadcasters.
