The Daily Mail’s website had the highest proportion of international visitors of all traditional UK media brands in November, according to comScore’s World Metrix audience measurement service. The research shows that 69% of the Daily Mail’s 7.6 million visitors were from outside of the UK.†
It also shows that 59% of the 18.8 million visitors to the BBC site were also from overseas, while the Telegraph drew 57% of its 2.6 million visitors from across the globe.
Bob Ivins, executive vice-president of European markets at comScore, says: “In recent years UK media companies have been able to acquire significant international audiences by leveraging their brands online.”
The Guardian Media Group, covering The Guardian and The Observer, also drew over half of its 3.6 million audience from overseas, as did The Times Online, with 55% of its 5.3 million visitors from outside the UK.
BSkyB and ITV were the only two sites out of the ten covered in the study to attract less than a quarter of the visitors from overseas.
