Samsung strikes TV deal with Dorling Kindersley
Samsung Electronics has agreed a deal with Penguin Group’s Dorling Kindersley (DK) to add preloaded content to its one million new television sets. The sets, which were launched this month, have an embedded contents library as well as regular TV channels.
The contents library has five categories – including cooking and fitness – and contains images, animations and music background. As well as preloaded content, Samsung 7 Series owners will be able to download new selections onto their TV via a USB stick.
DK digital licensing manager Tom Hall says: “The 7 series Contents Library offers Dorling Kindersley a great way to offer DK content to our audience via a brand new channel.”
Kyungshik Lee, vice president of the visual display division at Samsung Electronics, says: “Our product’s idea is based on changing TV from a tool that receives broadcasting into an in-house entertainment centre, and that partnership fits perfectly into our long-term vision.”
