Virgin Media signs high street deal with Phones4U

Virgin Media is extending its presence on the high street through a new deal with retailer Phones4U. The cable company has announced a six store trial with the chain, although it is expected to be rolled out across the country if it is successful.

The stores are all in the North West, which is one of the first regions that will switch to digital TV as the analogue signal is switched off, and will be refurbished to include Virgin Media branding.

They will showcase its range of products, including digital TV, video-on-demand, broadband, home phone and mobile. The stores will look like they have been split in half and Virgin Media’s logo will also appear on the outside fascia.

Phones4U staff have been trained on the cable company’s products and bundles and there will be an additional Virgin Media “guru” on hand in each store.

Virgin Media has 13 dedicated stores and 91 concessions in Zavvi stores, which was rebranded from Virgin Megastores late last year following a management buyout.

The cable company rebranded in February last year from NTL:Telewest. Rival BSkyB also has a high street presence and last month announced it plans to increase its number of stores from 170 to 250.
