The Sun rallied back over the 3 million mark during January, despite recording a small year-on-year fall. The latest Audit Bureau of Circulations also revealed significant year-on-year declines among many national newspapers.
The Sun enjoyed a 7.5% increase in sales to 3.2 million in January compared to the previous month – a stark contrast to the 3% drop it returned in the previous monthly period.
All the daily titles managed a circulation increase in January, with the exception of Express Newspapers’ Daily Star, which fell by a marginal 0.48% to 722,969.
In a year-on-year comparison, however, the news was very different, with falls among the dailies, and many of the weekend newspapers. The People and Sunday Sport were the worst hit – both falling by more than 12%.
Associated Newspapers’ Evening Standard returned the biggest year-on-year rise, up 6.6% to 294,823.
