Five has appointed former BBC executive Chris Kerwin as its first digital controller as the broadcaster looks to bolster its digital and new media presence.
Kerwin joins the newly formed digital media team with responsibility for the commercial side of the channel’s digital businesses including video on demand (VOD) and online.
He will report to head of digital media Jonathan Lewis, who is leading Five’s investment in and development of digital media strategy. The broadcaster has also named Scott Jeffrey as VOD editor.
Lisa Opie, the managing director of content, confirmed Five’s digital relaunch plans last year (MW December 6, 2007). The revamped offering will include ad-supported and paid-for on-demand content, in addition to social networking and community tools.
Prior to joining Five, Kerwin published T3 magazine and T3.com, which he relaunched in December last year. He is also a former head of new media for BBC Magazines.
Jeffrey joins Five from the Australian digital advertising distribution company, Adstream. He has also worked for new media company CNET Networks and Sky Racing.
