A Day in the Life of Brett Jacob

‘There isnt a typical working day. If I am working at home I like to start the day by taking the kids to school before responding to enquiries, preparing presentations for the next days pitch. I try to keep internal meetings to as few as possible. Being a virtual organisation, its important to get together with the whole team every couple of months but we all speak almost daily and work together on various pitches.’

Name: Brett Jacob
Company: Jaywing
Job title: I don’t have one in the traditional sense as we don’t do job titles at Jaywing but essentially I look after our sales

What keeps you busy all day?: The job – looking after new business and client development. I guess the difference between my role and a typical sales role is that I also consult so it’s always about the specific needs of the client in question.

What keeps you awake at night?:
It used to be the children but as they are getting older, that’s no longer an excuse! Instead it is usually things that I have forgotten to do in the day, approaching deadlines and new ideas.

Describe your working day:
There isn’t a typical working day. If I am working at home I like to start the day by taking the kids to school before responding to enquiries, preparing presentations for the next day’s pitch. I try to keep internal meetings to as few as possible. Being a virtual organisation, it’s important to get together with the whole team every couple of months but we all speak almost daily and work together on various pitches. A lot of the time I am out talking to existing clients about work we can do for them or prospects presenting Jaywing to them and understanding where we can help.

What’s your busiest time of day?:
All of it!

What brands/accounts have you worked on?
E-on, Royal Bank of Scotland, Cheltenham and Gloucester, British Gas, Co-operative Insurance, Home Learning College. I get involved with most of our clients in the early stages as well as maintaining longer term relationships with some.

Best day at work:
Putting the finishing touches to our response to a client brief, getting the green light and briefing a team about a new engagement.

Worst day at work:
Being stuck on the motorway following a conversation that is inconclusive when I know just how we can help!

Name one thing you’ve achieved that has made your bosses sit up and take
notice:
I work with my bosses all of the time so that’s a difficult question, plus we’re really not hierarchical so it is odd to call them that!

Ambitions:
To continue to contribute to the future success of Jaywing and Digital Marketing Group.

Advice to other rising stars:
Be yourself.

Quote from the boss:
The best thing about having someone like Brett around is the enthusiasm that he brings to the work that he does. Whether he is working with new clients or people that he has known for years, he always brings a fresh outlook. The fact that he works so hard and still gets the kids to school on time is testament to his hard-working attitude and dedication!
