Arthritis Research Campaign hunts for marketing director

Arthritis Research Campaign, the medical charity, is looking for a marketing director to lead a new marketing department.

The charity is looking to implement an overhaul of it’s marketing and communications strategy to raise overall income from £30m a year to £44m by 2012. It also plans to increase its advertising spend by 10%.

Fergus Logan, chief executive of Arthritis Research Campaign, says although the charity previously had a marketing function, he is looking to “beef it up a considerable amount”. He adds that he will be looking for the marketing director’s guidance to recruit eight other people to work in the department.

Logan says the charity’s marketing strategy has been mainly about fundraising, but he will now be looking to build the brand.

The charity will also be looking to expand its advertising media from direct mail and internet under the new director’s guidance. “We are not a significant player in off-the-page at the moment,” adds Logan.

Logan joined the charity 10 years ago and was involved in its rebranding from the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council. He has a marketing background and previously worked for UNICEF and Mencap. He says he aims to appoint a marketing director by mid-March.

The charity was set up 70 years ago and is the world’s largest non-Government organisation funder of research into arthritis and the fourth-largest medical charity in the UK.
