Good Housekeeping gets better of Cosmo

Good Housekeeping has overtaken National Magazine Company stablemate Cosmopolitan, posting a 6.6% rise in circulation, according to the July to December 2007 Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABCs) figures.

The Natmags titles switched places from second and third, trailing CondÈ Nast’s Glamour. Good Housekeeping’s circulation rose to 464,041, a 0.1% increase year-on-year, while Cosmo rose to 460,276 – an increase of 2.1% over the period and 1% year-on-year. Glamour’s ciruclation grew to 550,066, a 1% growth over the period, but a 6.5% drop year-on-year .

However, mid-market magazines all experienced declines with Bauer’s More! faring worst with a fall of 23.2% for the period and 26.4% year on year to 200,033.

Phil Cutts, director of marketing at PPA Marketing, says the ABCs are encouraging, showing a “stable market with significant growth” for many titles. “After a number of strong years for the weekly performances, the figures show that the monthly market has upped its game resulting in healthy six month figures,” he adds.
