Warner Music UK has appointed ZenithOptimedia to its £6.5m media planning and buying account. It is understood to have beaten Carat in a final two-way pitch to win the business.

The music company called a pitch at the end of last year, with consultant Charlie Thelu, EMI’s former vice-president of global purchasing, overseeing the process.

The shortlist included Vizeum and independent shops Target Media and The7stars. Prior to the review, PHD had handled the business since October 2006 and MediaMix works with the company on a project basis.

A Warner Music spokesman declined to comment on the new appointment.

In October last year, Warner Music appointed Greg Castell, former Mercury Record managing director, to the role of marketing director (Marketing Week, October 11). At the time, he said he had no plans to review the company’s media account which at the time was believed to be worth £18m – more than double what it is now.
