ITV promotes Howell to the board

ITV has appointed Rupert Howell, the managing director of brand and commercial, to its main board just four months after he joined the broadcaster. The news comes as executive chairman Michael Grade agreed to stay on until 2010.

The changes are part of a major restructure of its senior management has also led to the departure of director of television, Simon Shaps. Former BBC1 controller Peter Fincham, who resigned from the BBC last October over the controversial Queen documentary, will replace him.

Dawn Airey, the managing director of content, and chief operating officer John Creswell have also been appointed to the board.

ITV senior independent non-executive director, Sir James Crosby, says: “This will deliver continuity and give the new executive team the opportunity to execute ITV’s turnaround plan, restoring the company to growth and leading up the CEO succession process.”

Grade says that Howell, who is a director of the Advertising Association and the former chairman for McCann Erickson Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Airey have “delivered significant progress” since joining the company last year.
