Simon Cowell has turned down a £1m deal to become the face of impotence drug Viagra. The X Factor judge, known for his cutting comments, described the offer as “an insult”.

Cowell (pictured) revealed the details of offer from Pfizer, the manufacturer of the iconic diamond-shaped blue pills, in an interview with glossy women’s magazine, Glamour.

He said: “Last year, my agent rang me and said ‘You’ve been offered an incredibly big deal. It’s to be the face of Viagra.’ And I just said ‘sorry, but that has to be a f*****g insult’.”

It would be the second time that the drug had used a celebrity to promote its benefits to sufferers of erectile dysfunction. In 2002, it drafted in Brazilian football legend Pele to head a worldwide campaign to educate people that sexual impotence can be treated. However, the ad made no mention of the drug itself.
