MTV Two and MySpace launch download chart

MTV Two and download service MySpace Music are launching a new weekly chart show that will be driven by audience votes. Viewers will be able to vote for their favourite tracks through the MTV website or a dedicated MySpace page from March 10.

The show, which will also include comments from viewers, video directors and artists, launches on March 16. The vote list will be refreshed on a weekly basis with 35 to 40 videos drawn from MTV’s playlist and specialist shows such as Gonzo Loves and the Rock Chart.

MySpace marketing director, Dom Cook, says: “The way that consumers are accessing music is changing and the MySpace Chart on MTV Two brings together two of the most important voices in this evolution.”

MTV vice president of digital media, Philip O’Ferrall, adds that MTV Two and MySpace’s audiences are “incredibly similar” and “powerful advocates” for up-coming artists.

MySpace has recently signed a deal with the “big four” record labels to launch MySpace Music, which aims to compete with Apple iTunes.
