Bentley Motors is introducing renewable fuel vehicles across its range to enable all of its cars to meet European Commission targets on emissions by 2012. The company says the move reflects increasing consumer expectation for performance motoring with fuel-efficient engines.

The luxury marque claims its commitment to renewable fuels, particularly second-generation biofuels, will make its entire fleet capable of delivering less than 120g per km within four years.

It adds that improved efficiency on its eight and 12 cylinder engines will lead to at least a 15% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2012, while a new powertrain engine will be introduced, delivering a 40% reduction in fuel consumption.

Speaking at this week’s Geneva Motor Show, Bentley chief executive Frank-Josef Paefgen called the measures a “major step in the history of Bentley”. He adds: “By preparing our engines at an early stage for these fuels, we believe we will help accelerate their adoption as the supply and market for them develop.”
