Ecoescape green UK travel guide launches

A series of eco-travel guides that aim to promote the world’s greenest destinations have been launched. The first instalment of Ecoescape will cover the UK.

The first version of the guide was published last year but it will now be relaunched following a deal with Markham Publishing. Ecoescape was launched by author Laura Burgess last year.

A guide covering Ireland is due out in May and further guides covering the islands of Britain and “Budgets and Backpacks” will be published later this year. In 2009, there will be four more Ecoescape guides, including a first foray overseas to France.

The books feature “handpicked experiences that are sustainable from start to finish” and all the businesses meet strict green criteria. The books also promote “slow travel”, using cycle, bus and rail routes to reduce carbon emissions and travelling by aeroplane is banned.

Markham Publishing, which also produces the Green Guides series, says the guides will be available in bookstores as well as specialist organic and wholefood retailers.
