ASA appoints marketer to promote Copy Advice

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has appointed its marketing chief for its CAP Copy Advice service in a bid to promote the free service to advertisers. It coincides with the launch of its 2007 Annual Report, which is out tomorrow (April 30).

Nick Hudson, who has been with the ASA since 2006, has been promoted to the new role of copy advice and marketing executive and will report to the director-general Christopher Graham. It is the first time that a full-time marketing role has been created to actively promote the Copy Advice service.

The CAP Copy Advice team provides free pre-publication advice and guidance on non-broadcast marketing communications.

A spokesman for the ASA says: “Copy Advice is an invaluable service to non-broadcast marketers – free, independent, expert, confidential and fast. It can save advertisers from running into trouble with the ASA and even if the ASA do investigate complaints about a campaign the fact that a marketer has taken Copy Advice can be taken into account.”

He adds that the regulator felt the need to promote the service and engage with the key sector stakeholders because: “at a time when advertising, in particular sensitive sectors such as food, alcohol and gambling, are under such intense scrutiny it pays to ensure your advertising adheres to the code.”
