ASDA%20logoAsda is launching a £2m initiative to promote grass roots sport to young people. The Sporting Chance scheme will give 500,000 young people access to free sports sessions during school holidays.

The supermarket chain will run free coaching sessions every summer for five years. The sessions will run in June for Scotland and Northern Ireland, and July for the rest of the UK and will feature a wide range of sports.

The initiative is designed to keep children entertained and active during the school holidays. Customers can collect a leaflet from an Asda supermarket to redeem one of the free coaching sessions.

Asda is also working with sporting charity SportsAid to offer 700 young disabled and non-disabled athletes, with potential in their chosen sport, the chance to qualify for a £500 grant.

Chief executive of SportsAid Tim Lawler says: “There is a real need to support our future medal hopefuls from an early age. More investment is essential to ensure we continue to help talented young athletes who can represent Great Britain in the future.”
