Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO has scooped the £13m Pizza Hut advertising business following a pitch against RKCR/Y&R, Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy and M&C Saatchi.

The review was called in March after incumbent Wieden & Kennedy resigned the business after three years. The win sees the business return to AMV after it lost the account in 2005 in a review overseen by then marketing director Martin Pugh. Pugh has since joined Camelot, which retained AMV to handle the £20m Lotto business late last month.

The appointment, which was overseen by marketing director Hugh Wood, comes ahead of a relaunch of the pizza chain that aims to position the brand away from its fast food roots and towards casual dining in the style of chains such as Nando’s.

Whitbread, Pizza Hut’s UK franchise partner, sold its 50% stake back to the US parent Yum! Foods in September 2006.
