EasyCar puts media task into Rocket without pitch

Rocket has been appointed to handle the media planning and buying account for easyCar, as the online car hire company launches its first above-the-line campaign.

The Omnicom-owned agency, which is part of the PHD group, was appointed without a pitch. Rocket will oversee all easyCar’s offline media planning and buying, and will work on campaigns to drive online sales. There was no incumbent on the account.

A press campaign has just launched to coincide with the summer car rental season.

The international low-cost car hire specialist launched in April 2000 and provides car rental to more than 2,400 locations in over 60 countries. It is part of easyGroup, which owns websites including easyJet, easyInternetcafe, easyValue and easyMoney.

Last month, Rocket won the media planning and buying account for The Climate Group’s Together initiative. The agency was handed the business without a pitch and is Together’s first agency of record. The aim of the initiative is to develop products and services that make it easier for consumers to reduce their CO2 emissions. (MW April 3).

Meanwhile, Rocket has split with Mini after three years, following the BMW-owned marque’s decision to move its media planning in house.
