Richard Eyre (pictured), the chairman of commercial radio operator GCap Media, has been appointed as non-executive director and chairman of mobile advertising company Rapid Mobile Media. The move comes a month after the GCap board accepted a £375m offer from Global Radio.

Media veteran Eyre, who holds a number of non-executive roles and is chairman of the Internet Advertising Bureau, took over earlier this month. It is not clear when he will step down from GCap board although the Global deal is expected to be completed in June.

Edinburgh-based Rapid Mobile, which was founded in 2004, is a software company that licences mobile application technology that can work with any handset. Its Active Provisioning platform and ThinkPhone design allow “rapid deployment of any type of service to the mobile environment”.

Eyre says: “Few people doubt that mobile advertising will be huge. I believe its time has come. By enabling the delivery of high quality, highly targeted display advertisements within mobile applications and mobile internet services, Rapid Mobile has the technology to enhance advertisers’ and publishers’ communications with their customers.”

Rapid Mobile chief executive Jeremy Copp says that Eyre’s guidance will “add significant value” to the company.
