Ex-eBay marketer takes Skype top role

Skype%20120x120Skype, the internet phone company, has appointed former eBay marketer Suchi Mukherjee to its top marketing role.

Mukherjee, who has already joined the company, has the title of director of user experience and customer journey, and will be responsible for marketing as well as growing its customer base.

It is understood she is currently reviewing the company’s marketing, and plans to make a number of changes, although further details have yet to be revealed.

Prior to Skype, she worked at eBay’s UK business, with a focus on proving its service functions. She was also part of the consumer management team at NTL before it became Virgin Media.

During her time at NTL, she led one of the company’s largest operational transformations, involving 1,200 people across 13 sites and 36 customer-facing sales and marketing functions.

Mukherjee has also worked in corporate finance for telecomms companies and is credited with restructuring Orange’s Eastern European assets, as well as raising financing for Vodafone. She also launched the first structured debt product to be used in India.

Skype announced it was launching the “longest ever ad” earlier this month (MW May 8). The campaign will map the progress of Australian writer Rebecca Campbell over a 33-day journeythat will be recorded on the internet.

The campaign was crea-ted by Albion and is called Skype Nomad. Skype saysthe campaign aims to show people how easy it is to use the service.

Skype was bought by eBay in 2005 and has 309 million registered users, which it says it recruited without using any traditional advertising techniques.
