Samsung names ex-Motorola man as marketing head

Samsung Mobile has appointed former Motorola marketer James King to head its UK marketing division. He will take on the role from July.

King replaces Susan Land, who left the company in February to join Nokia (MW February 28). King will report to newly appointed Samsung UK general manager Derek Williamson.

He will be responsible for “maximising the product portfolio, investment and brand strategy” to drive consumer engagement with the brand.

King joins from Motorola, where has been for eight years, most recently as marketing manager.

Williamson was appointed earlier this month after he was lured from T-Mobile to head up all of Samsung’s marketing and product management.

Meanwhile, Samsung has also launched a competition with social networking sites Facebook, Bebo and MySpace to find four unsigned bands to appear in its advertising this summer.
