Thomson Local has announced the appointment of Richard Avery (pictured), former group internet controller for Express Group Newspapers, as general manager of new media. He took up the role earlier this year.

Avery’s responsibilities include the business search website ThomsonLocal.com. He reports to Thomson product and marketing director Gary Brown.

Brown says: “Richard’s experience and knowledge will ensure that we continue to increase usage of ThomsonLocal.com by offering relevant, local search results for our users while delivering return on investment for our advertisers.”

Avery adds: “We have already extended our Nectar partnership to ThomsonLocal.com, ensuring that no matter how people search, Thomson Local is the only directory to reward its users with Nectar points. I am looking forward to developing other new products to provide users with an equally rewarding search experience.”
