TNT Post launches UK’s first carbon neutral mail service

TNT Post is launching the UK’s first carbon neutral mailing service. The service, launching next week, will target the business market.

The move comes in response to the Government’s target to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2020 and following a 2003 agreement between the Government and the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), which commits the industry to address behaviour that is detrimental to the environment.

TNT Post customers will be able to measure the impact of the elements used to produce and deliver their direct mailings on an online carbon calculator. This identifies the carbon contributing factors and recommends how levels can be reduced. It will also provide advice related to suppliers and materials.

Emissions that cannot be reduced are offset in carbon savings projects managed by the Carbon Neutral company. The service has reserved carbon credits in several offset projects, such as a methane capture scheme in The Netherlands.

Items deemed to be carbon neutral will carry a TNT Post Carbon Neutral logo stamp. They will also have the Recycle Now logo to encourage the recipient to recycle.
