Aegis chairman Colin Sharman (pictured) is stepping down from his role next month and will be replaced by John Napier, who was most recently chief executive of recruitment company Hays. Sharman, who is retiring, has spent nine years on the Aegis board.

Napier will join the board as a non-executive director immediately, taking the chairman’s role from July 17. He was chief executive of Hays from 1990 to 1998 and since then has been chairman of a number of companies. He has also worked as chief executive of AGB, the market research and information company.

From 1998 he was chairman of Booker until its sale to Iceland in 2000, and executive chairman, then chairman, of Kelda from 1999 to 2008.

Sharman says: “In him [Napier] we have found someone with considerable board experience at the highest levels. He is a proven chairman who has delivered to shareholders, and brings international business skills and
familiarity with marketing services.”
