Imperial War Museum names director of development

The Imperial War Museum has appointed Sue Coleman, former director of marketing and development at the Royal Horticultural Society, as director of development. She has already taken over the role.

Coleman, a former De Beers marketer, will be responsible for strengthening its existing fundraising programmes and developing new ones. She is also working on projects such as launching a new children’s interactive gallery, which is due to open in 2009, restoration work on HMS Belfast and developing a new public access space.

She says the museum has as a proven track record of successful fundraising and capital funding projects. She adds: “I look forward to using my experience in both commercial and charity sectors to build on this success and to raise much needed funds to help secure a health future for the Imperial War Museum, with it ambitious growth and development plans.”

Coleman has previously held marketing roles at Sheaffer Pens and Asprey Garrard and also spent a year fundraising for the Royal Opera House Trust.
