Apple celebrates best Q2 revenue in company history

Apple has hailed its latest results as its “best June quarter for both revenue and earnings” in the company’s history. It has reported that revenue grew from $5.41bn in the same period last year to $7.46bn.

The company also saw a 31% increase in profits from the third quarter of last year. It adds that international sales accounting for 42% of revenue over the period.

The main bulk of its growth is attributed to sales of Apple Macintosh computers and iPod MP3 players. Apple shipped 2.4 million Macs, representing 41% unit growth, and 11m iPods, equivalent to 12% unit growth, during the quarter. Sales of iPhones hit 717,000 compared to 270,000 in the same quarter of last year.

Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s chief financial officer, says that the company is expecting revenues of around $7.8bn in its fourth fiscal quarter of 2008.
