TIML promotes Goldson to commercial content chief

TIML, the owner of the soon-to-be relaunched Virgin Radio, has promoted Chris Goldson to commercial content director. He will also take a place on the executive board.

Goldson, who takes over the new role on August 4, will be responsible for driving growth through the station’s creative output and identifying new business opportunities. He will report to Nick Hewat, the station’s sales director.

Hewat says that Goldson’s “innovative approach” is in line the company’s aspirations for the new station.

Goldson, who has been with the station for eight years, was previously head of new business development and was later made sponsorship and promotions director.

According to TIML, sponsor and promotions account for 30% of the station’s revenue compared to an industry average of 20%. It includes initiatives such as imbedding commercial content into radio shows, and advertising funded programming.

TIML is gearing up for a major relaunch of Virgin Radio and is planning to invest £15m in the new format, branding and marketing support. It has appointed Albion to handle the relaunch.
