Former Vodafone brand chief joins Sony

Matt Coombe, the former Vodafone head of brand, is joining Sony to head its central marketing team. He replaces Mikah Martin Cruz, who is leaving to “pursue a career outside of Sony”.

Coombe takes over the role of general manager of central marketing for Sony UK today (July 28).

He left Vodafone in April this year as part of an ongoing restructure of the company, led by the mobile operators consumer director Ian Shepherd (MW April 23). He was responsible for developing the mobile operator’s communications, retail network and employeer traning. Coombe left just months after Dominic Chambers (pictured), the former head of brand and marketing (, February 25).

Prior to joining Vodafone, Coombe was one of the key figures behind Honda’s award-winning advertising, including “The Power of Dreams” work. He was at the company for five years. He started his career in agencies and work on clients including Hitachi and Ravel.
