Walkers is fastest growing UK website

Websites offering discounts and promotions have become the fastest growing sites over the first six months of the year, according to Nielsen Online. The trend has been attributed to the continued pressure on consumer spending.

The figures show that Walkers, the snack brand, is the fastest growing website recording a 2,575% rise in the number of UK unique visitors from 17,000 last June to 444,000. Consumers flocked to the site to take up its Brit Trip promotion, which offered discounts on trips to UK attractions.

Trovit, a classified job, car and property site, leaped into second place with visits growing 2,416% to a 766,000 over the period. It is thought the popularity of the site has grown as consumers look to re-evaluate their financial situation with property, cars and jobs being key areas that can be changed.

Shopping comparison site Findstuff had the third highest amount of growth, up 1,443% to 548,000, while reward and voucher site MyVoucherCodes is in fourth place, with visits increasing 1,200% to 972,000.

Meanwhile, several other sites saw significant growth not driven by the credit crunch. Dating site iSingles saw growth of 1,120% to 418,000 unqiue vists, and food and cooking portal UKTV Food saw a 863% increase in visits to 499,000.
