Nortel signs up as latest 2012 sponsor

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has announced technology company Nortel as the latest London 2012 Tier One sponsor.

LOCOG says this latest deal means it is “well over” half way to reaching its domestic sponsorship target. Brands signing up to a Tier One sponsorship pay at least £40m for the deal.

As it heads towards its £2bn budget for staging the Games, LOCOG now has seven Tier One Partners – adidas (Sportswear Partner), BP (Oil and Gas Partner), British Airways (Airline Partner), BT (Communications Services Partner), EDF Energy (Energy Utilities Services Partner), Lloyds TSB (Banking and Insurance Partner) and Nortel (Network Infrastructure Partner) and its only Tier Two sponsor so far, Deloitt.

As the official network infrastructure partner, Nortel will be responsible for providing BT with equipment to enable wireless Local Area Networks, call centres and fixed telephony infrastructure, which LOCOG requires to stage the Games. Also, in addition to EDF Energy, BT and BP, Nortel becomes London 2012’s fourth Sustainability Partner and will work with London 2012 and partners to reduce the environmental impact of hosting the Games.

Nortel is also a sponsor of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
