The Sun to slash cover price across UK

News Group Newspapers is dropping the cover price of The Sun newspaper across the UK, putting it in line with the cover price in London. The paper will go down from 35p to 30p.

In September, the cover price in London was slashed from 35p to 20p in London and the South East. It then raised the price to 25p in May. Most recently, on July 21, it again raised it to 30p.

The Sun’s Monday to Friday cover price in England and Wales is currently 35p and 30p in the Carlton TV area and Scotland. From today (August 4), 2,500,000 copies of the paper currently selling at 35p will drop to 30p.

The new nationwide price of 30p will make The Sun 10p cheaper than the Daily Mirror, 20p cheaper than the Daily Mail and 5p cheaper than the Daily Star.

The Sun marketing director Roland Agambar says: “At a time when many companies, including our competitors, are constantly cutting costs to the detriment of their product, we are constantly looking to improve our product and increase the value we give to our readers.”

The Sun will continue to pay its retailers in England based on a cover price of 35p.
