Global Group poaches Miron to head radio

Global Group, the owner of GCap Media and the former Chrysalis radio stations, has appointed Stephen Miron as chief executive of radio. It is understood that Miron, currently managing director of the Mail on Sunday and Mail Online, will not join until next at the earliest.

He will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the radio group and will report to Ashley Tabor, the founder and chief executive of Global Group. Miron, who has been at Associated Newspapers for 20 years, will work alongside Richard Park, who becomes group executive director in addition to his role as director of broadcast.

Miron’s appointment comes two weeks after the Office of Fair Trading cleared the group’s takeover of GCap, which owns London station 95.8 Capital and Xfm. The OFT has decided against referring the deal to the Competition Commission but has recommended that it disposes of several stations in the Midlands, including Birmingham flagship station, BRMB.

The changes also see group chief operating officer Don Thomson take the same role in the radio business and chief financial officer, Michael Connole, also move to the same role for radio. Charles Allen, the former ITV chief, will continue to chair the board.

Tabor says that Miron’s commercial and management experience will “enhance” the Global business. He adds: “We now have the right management balance to drive the business forward and ensure that Global ad its radio brands, lead the industry.”

Miron joined Associated in 1988 as a sales executive but left to join The Independent in 1999 before returning to Associated in 2001.
