EBay cuts fixed price sales fees

Ebay has announced plans to make the online auction site more appealing to retailers by cutting fees for fixed-price sales. Shops using the Buy It Now function will now get greater prominence in search results.

It is hoped that the changes will help retailers to make the most of the online market through the Buy It Now feature, which accounts for 43% of the value of total global sales.

Ebay says the changes, which come into effect on September 24, will give buyers and sellers more choice in how they buy and sell.

All sellers will now be able to upload a photo with their offering for free, and those using the Buy It Now feature will only be charged after the item has sold.

Clare Gilmartin, eBay UK director of marketplaces, says: “These improvements will remove barriers for sellers, so they can make the most of this opportunity and offer even more goods for sale on eBay.co.uk.”

The company currently attracts 15 million visitors a month, and last year reported total sales of £30bn.
