Nokia launches iPhone rival

Nokia is launching its Comes With Music service in the UK today (September 2) and has announced that Carphone Warehouse will exclusively sell the pre-pay edition. It is thought the new handsets expected to go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone.

The service gives consumers a year of unlimited access to the handset maker’s music store catalogue. Carphone Warehouse will exclusively sell Nokia 5310 XpressMusic model and is accepting orders via its website from today.

Nokia’s executive vice president and head of entertainment and communities, Tero Ojanperä, says that Comes With Music will “transform the way people enjoy music”.

Carphone Warehouse UK chief executive, Andrew Harrison, says he expects the Nokia 5310 to be “the gift for Christmas and on top of all shopping lists”.

Carphone Warehouse will be Nokia’s exclusive pre-pay channel until December 31 2008. Nokia says it will announce further details about its Comes With Music service in October this year.
