Magazines hold their own against internet

Magazines remain the preferred source of information when it comes to reading about hobbies and specific markets, according to a survey from magazine subscription website The survey found 66% of people trust magazines for industry news, with just 7% preferring the internet.

The survey of UK magazine subscribers also found that 26% of readers said that reading news on the internet encourages them to buy magazines.

Nicola Rowe from says: “Despite the growth and popularity of the internet, when it comes to taking time out to catch up on the latest news and views on hobbies and interests, reading a magazine is as popular as ever.

“Hectic lifestyles mean that we all need to make room for some ‘me-time’, and relaxing with a cup of tea and a magazine is many people’s chosen indulgence.”

Over half of respondents, 52%, described the delivery of their favourite magazine to their door as a “regular treat”.

Almost half of the readers said they liked to drink a cup of tea while reading the magazine, and 35% said that a glass of wine was the perfect accompaniment.
