Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) has appointed Sean Finnegan (pictured) as its president and chief digital officer. Finnegan joins from Vibrant Media, where he was advertising executive for seven months.

Finnegan, who starts next month, replaces Curt Hecht, who is understood to have moved to an executive role at VivaKi, a unit of Publicis Groupe. VivaKi was launched in June to take advantage of the combined scale of the operations of group networks including Starcom, Digitas, Denuo and ZenithOptimedia.

Previously, Finnegan was chief executive of OMG Digital and has launched services in the arena of digital investment, ad operations, search, mobile and gaming.

Finnegan began his career as a print planner at BBDO in New York and has worked at interactive agencies including TribalDDB. He will operate out of SMG’s Chicago office.

This is the second senior management appointment from SMG after it announced the appointment of Laura Despond as its chief executive in June.
