Starcom names Eyre as independent advisor

Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) has appointed the former Capital and ITV chief executive Richard Eyre to the newly created role of senior independent advisor. Eyre has been appointed to the non-executive role by the new chief executive, Stewart Easterbrook.

The role will involve close liaison with Easterbrook on the strategy and positioning of the group in the UK, as well as on senior client relationships.

Eyre holds a number of non-executive roles including chairman of the Internet Advertising Bureau, RDF Media and Rapid Mobile. He was chairman of GCap Media until its recent sale, and has served as a director of the Guardian Media Group and as an advisor to the ITC, Ofcom, Camelot and 19 Management.

Easterbrook says: “We operate in one of the most competitive sectors of the economy. Eyre’s experience, not only as a media practitioner, but as chief executive and chairman of a number of British companies, adds a depth of experience that is unique to media agencies in the UK.”

Easterbrook was appointed as chief executive of the agency on July 1.
