Global Radio’s Thomson takes over GCap brands

nicola_thompsonNicola Thomson, marketing director at Global Radio, has scooped the top marketing job at the radio operator ahead of its merger with GCap Media. It follows the restructure of its sales and commercial team last week.

Thomson will take over responsibility for GCap brands including Classic FM, XFM and London flagship station, 95.8 Capital FM.

She is planning to centralise the marketing across the station’s brands, which also include Heart and Galaxy. Thomson says that she is planning to make a number of marketing app-ointments but declines to reveal further
details.

Global Group chief executive Ashley Tabor has already revealed the company’s plans to focus on seven brands – Heart, Galaxy, Classic FM, LBC, the Gold network, XFM, and six hit music stations, including 95.8 Capital FM.

Thomson says: “My job is to work on the seven pillars and to develop great and exciting radio brands.”

She would not be drawn on plans to review the group’s agencies. Global has been working with The Law Firm on a project basis for Heart, while GCap Media took its advertising in house earlier this year.

GCap also works with Rocket and MediaVest, which handled the media account for Global. Rocket works on the GCap brands.

Thomson joined Global from Magic 105.4, then owned by EMAP, in March last year. She joined the station in 2005 (MW December 8, 2005) and was part of the team that helped take it to the top spot in the London market.
