Ecover names first head of international marketing

Ecover, the maker of ecological laundry and cleaning products, has appointed Rudy De Vis to the new role of international sales and marketing manager.

De Vis will head Ecover’s marketing operation in the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and the US. He will report to Ecover managing director, Michaël Bremans.

The appointment follows a period of strong growth at the company over the past few years. In the past, it has had national marketers reporting to Bremans, but it has created the new role to co-ordinate marketing across its markets. Regional marketers will continue to be responsible for their areas, but will now report to De Vis.

De Vis joins from Alpro Group Vandemoortele, one of Belgium’s largest food companies which markets a number of products including soya products brand Alpro. He has held the role of international marketing manager at the company since 2002. Prior to that, De Vis was a product manager at Nestlé.

In August, Ecover teamed up with conservation organisation, WWF-UK to spearhead a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the issues facing the marine environment.

Yachtsman Mike Golding will compete in the next Vendée Globe, a round-the-world single-handed yacht race in a vessel called Ecover 3. The race is takes place every four years and normally takes about 80 days to complete. It is the second time the company has sponsored a boat in the race. Golding sailed Ecover 2 into third place in 2004. It has created an interactive website where the race, which begins next month, can be followed.
