Nationwide is reviewing its £10m advertising account after incumbent Leagas Delaney resigned the business. It is understood that the building society has already started contacting agencies.

The review, which will be handled by Oystercatchers, was due to start in the New Year but it is has been bought forward following the agency’s resignation. It will be overseen by Nationwide head of brand, Peter Gandolfi.

The move comes just weeks after Nationwide sales and marketing director John Sutherland stepped down from his role over the building society’s search to bring in a board-level marketer (MW September 11). It is not clear if he is taking another role elsewhere in the company or is leaving completely.

Earlier this year, it reviewed its media planning and buying business, which was handled by Mediaedge:cia, into MPG, and it is also seeking an advertising agency to oversee the launch of the brand in Ireland.

Leagas Delaney has worked with the brand since 1987 although it has resigned the account before. It was most recently appointed in 2002, and created the long-running campaign starring comedian, Mark Benton (pictured).
