British Universities & Colleges Sport, the new collective organisation for university sport in the UK, is seeking commercial partners for a slew of assets.

Its top priority is to find a title partner for the BUC Championships, which take place from 11 to 15 March 2009 in Sheffield, but it is also seeking a sponsor for the UK team, which will go to the World University Games in 2009 and 2011.

There will be between 300 and 350 student competitors and officials for the 2009 winter games, to be held in Harbin in China next February. The summer games will be held in Belgrade in July.

BUCS says sponsorship of the GB Team is a particularly attractive asset, as a number of the students who will compete at the World University Games will go on to represent the UK at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The organisation points to Beijing Olympic gold medalists Christine Ohurugu and Tim Brabants as examples of athletes who went through the university system before winning Olympic golds.

The organisation has already signed deals with sportswear company Kukri and Barclays.
