Cancer Research offers “credit crunch” donor scheme

Cancer Research UK is encouraging people to donate despite the credit crunch by allow them to give money to specific cancer research projects. The new online service launches today (November 18).

MyProjects allows donors to choose a specific project that matches their individual reasons for giving. The site will also keep them informed about the impact their support is making and tracks how much has been made for a particular research project.

Research areas include childhood leukaemia, breast, prostate and bowel cancer – or donors can fund cancer information nurses. The website will include videos of cancer patients and scientists explaining more about the project and how important they are in helping to beat the illness.

Cancer Research UK head of innovation, Kevin Waudby, says the new method of donating may be “particularly welcome at this time when people are more aware than ever of how they are spending their money”.
