McCormick & Company, owner of the herbs and spice brand Schwartz, has appointed Starcom MediaVest Group to handle its £7.5m media planning and buying business across France, the UK and Switzerland. It follows a pitch against undisclosed agencies, thought to include incumbent Carat.

The account, which is worth £4m in the UK, also includes new food brand Thai Kitchen.

Schwartz, which is the world’s largest producer of herbs, spices, seasonings and flavours, is planning to launch new products next year.

McCormick & Company acquired the Schwartz brand in 1984 when it acquired Paterson Jenks. Following rationalisation the McCormick brand was phased out in the UK and replaced by Schwarz.
