Carter set to leave GMG Radio

Julian Carter, group sales director for Guardian Media Group Radio, is leaving the company next year. It is not known if Carter has a job to go to.

It comes as Stuart Taylor, the company’s chief executive designate, seeks to appoint a new commercial director and national sales director.

It is understood that Taylor wants the new appointments to be based in London, and Manchester-based Carter has decided against relocating for the role. The commercial director and national sales director will be responsible for building up the group’s brands, including Smooth,†Real Radio and Century, with clients and agencies. The role will also manage its external relationships with both Global Radio, which manages its national sales, and industry bodies such as the Radio†Advertising Bureau.

Taylor is planning to make a number of senior level appointments when he takes over the chief executive next year. He is replaces John Myers, who is stepping down from the role after ten years, in April. Taylor says his appointment has provided an opportunity to look at the company’s senior management team to see if it could be strengthened further.

Carter joined GMG Radio in 2002 as deputy group sales director. He joined from Capital Radio, where he was regional sales director. During his tenure at GMG, he has been responsible for growing regional sales and creating its sponsorship and promotions team, GMG Solutions.†
