Honda has appointed agency Wieden & Kennedy to develop a £100m environment-focused advertising strategy for the marque next year. The agency, which is already the company’s lead agency, won the business after a five-way pitch against undisclosed agencies.

The strategy will include the launch of Honda’s hybrid model, Insight, which is due to launch in 2009. It is part of Honda’s plan to be the most environmental car brand by 2015. The pitch was called in November (MW, November 5).

Wieden & Kennedy has been the lead agency for Honda in the UK since 2002. It has created a series of famous ads for the Japanese company including “Cog”, and the recent live ad, which showed skydivers jumping out of a plane and spelling out Honda.

On Friday (December 5), Honda announced it is withdrawing from Formula One. The move aims to “secure the long term as widespread uncertainties in the economies around the globe continue to mount.”
