Lenovo signs F1 team sponsorship deal

Lenovo has agreed a sponsorship deal with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One team. The PC manufacturer had previously worked with the AT&T Williams team but opted not to renew its contract with them at the end of this season.

Lenovo will provide its notebook and desktop PC ranges to all team staff both at all the race circuits and at the team’s UK headquarters.

Engineers from the PC manufacturer will also work closely with the team to provide them with mobile wireless computing technology required during races.

Martin Whitmarsh, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes chief executive of Formula 1, says Lenovo will offer a “significant technology contribution” to the team.

McLaren says it will supply its statisticians and engineers with real-time race data using the new desktops and notebooks.

Deepak Advani, Lenovo senior vice president and chief marketing officer, says: “Vodafone McLaren Mercedes performs at the highest level in Formula 1 and integrates PC technology into every aspect of its car design, development and racing – as well as its business operations.”
