Cineworld opens website to publishers and social media fans

Cineworld is to allow external website publishers to use cinema, film information and performance schedules from its website through the Cineworld Cinemas application programming interface (API).

The API will be a portal allowing developers access in a bid to show that the cinema “recognises the importance of continuously reaching new customers and engaging existing ones in today’s hectic digital world.”

It will allow information about Cineworld to be moved onto third party websites and into online communities in a format that can then be easily shared. Can Factory has developed the API.

Cineworld says it “aims to foster innovation and experimentation amongst the developer community, recognising the importance of getting content on to the web and via social networks and blogging communities.”

Kristy Quigg, channel marketing manager at Cineworld, adds: “We are always looking for new ways to engage people and to ensure that Cineworld information is widely and easily available. The API will enable cinema & film information to be shared even more easily and will empower developers to quickly and simply utilise the information on their own websites.”

Cineworld has also launched a dedicated Facebook Share feature on Cineworld.co.uk, allowing users to share cinema and film content with their online network of friends.
