Five signs content deal with YouTube

YouTube has signed a deal with Five that will make the broadcaster’s programmes available on the video site.

Viewers will be able to watch Five’s British programmes and Australian soaps for 30 days after transmission but it does not include programmes such as CSI and FlashForward, for which Five has not agreed rights deals.

Five is the second broadcaster to make full-length programmes available to audiences via the Google-owned video site.

Its three-year deal follows a similar deal between the video sharing site and Channel 4, which was made in October.

Channel 4’s on-demand service will be available free of charge via a branded channel on YouTube in early 2010.

The broadcaster has also signed an ad-revenue share deal, which reportedly gives Channel 4 the larger share of revenue. Channel 4 will manage sales around its own content in addition to non-Channel 4 content.

YouTube has also launched full-length shows with 60 media partners including Al Jazeera, BBC Worldwide, CBS, Channel 4, Fremantle, ITN and Turner.
